The ps3 uses an hypervisor, which prevents linux from accessing the nvidia graphics chip directly (if you look at the linux for ps3 source, it has all the graphics access done through a virtual framebuffer which is then copied to real vram at each frame ; not only is this slow but also consumes system memory permanently). 

So unless sony decides to unlock access to the video chip, or someone cracks the hypervisor, it is not possible to have accelerated 3D under linux with the ps3.
