To reproduce: ./test-render-to-file-qt5 ~/tmp/remotesensing-10-00804-v2.pdf and then have a look at test-render-to-file11.ppm (attached as test-render-to-file11-splash.ppm). For comparison, call ./test-render-to-file-qt5 ~/tmp/remotesensing-10-00804-v2.pdf -arthur and then have a look at test-render-to-file11.ppm again (attached as test-render-to-file11-arthur.ppm). BTW, the test program prints 'Bogus memory allocation size' several times when handling the pages with the problematic images.

The 'Bogus memory allocation size' is actually the issue, it's trying to allocate a huge bitmap and failing to do so. Someone with time should investigate if that bitmap can be made smaller (there's something like some matrix calculation that can be made earlier?) or if not if we can just use various bitmaps when the needed bitmap is just too big.
