under nouveau when glxgears is initially started gears spin at a reasonable speed for an estimated 0.5-1.0seconds then they slow down and become jerkey as if they are being rendered by mesa software.
Created attachment 9934 [details] syslog output from insmod drm.ko debug=1 for gears working slowly
Created attachment 9935 [details] Xorg.log from nouveau with gears running
Clarification from pq looks like only software rendering :(
Created attachment 9941 [details] glxinfo with mesa git on path
Created attachment 9942 [details] syslog with gears that lockup X
Created attachment 9943 [details] Xorg.log from nouveau where gears crash
needs additional testing to eliminate bug 10933 as the cause

Start gears from gnome terminal, black rectangle is drawn (no window decorations or gears), Xorg locks up and get dropped back to tty before gdm restarts Xorg. Will attach kernel logs and Xorg log from starting the X session which eventually crashed.

Similar lockup and X crash with Option "RandR12" "true".
Closing as invalid. This is pre-Gallium3D, which is dead now. Also randr 1.2 cannot be turned off anymore.
