It either freezes (->cold start required) or it crashes (-> Xorg/gdm gets restarted automatically) I tried to reproduce, and it's easy to reproduce. Works for me using Ubuntu 10.10 with xserver 1.9 (xorg-server 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7).
