Description eric baldo 2004-08-23 07:25:35 UTC
When i load Xorg on a slack 10, i can only get the hardware resolution of the
M4, which is 1400x1050. i tried to extend a bit HorizSync and VertRefresh and
get 1280x1024 in xrandr list but with a blurred display. I extend hsync/vrefresh
really more and finally get 800x600 and 1024x768 in xrandr list but when i
switch to it, the display is all messed up, a part of the screen is repeated at
the other side and anoter part is totally missing with a sort of "interference
effect". So lower res are unusable to display on a videoprojector or using 3d
app which need low res to work correctly.
Notice : i can only switch to another res than 1400x1050 in 24bit mode, in 16
bit mode, the screen become all black and i need to blindtype to restore 1400x1050.

I switch to x.org 6.8.1(from slackware current). Things look better, i don't
have to extend horizsync and vrefresh in order to have all the resolutions in my
xrandr list, but the big problem is always here, when i set a resolution lower
than 1280x1024, the display is completely messed up.

Changing X.org version but same bug.
Comment 3 Taj Morton 2005-07-28 00:24:47 UTC
Confirmed in X.org 6.8.2 with Radeon M6 LY (radeon driver).

Comment 6 Simon Morgan 2005-08-03 05:51:57 UTC
X Window System Version 6.8.2
Release Date: 9 February 2005
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.8.2
Build Operating System: FreeBSD 5.4 i386 [ELF]

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600
Monitor: Sony SDM-X93/B 19" TFT (Analog connection)

X refuses to start or work properly with any other resolution than 1400x1050. I
can switch resolutions in GNOME but the display looks all messed up. I have a
Linux machine plugged into the DVI with the same Mode, HorizSync and VertSync
settings and it works perfectly with both the nv and nvidia drivers.

Please find attached a copy of my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.
Comment 7 Simon Morgan 2005-08-03 06:26:03 UTC
I should clarify. When I say "refuses to start" what I mean is that no matter
what I put in my xorg.conf, X will use 1400x1050 as the default resolution.

> Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600

That should be GeForce 4 Ti 4200
Comment 9 Erik Andren 2006-03-12 23:50:06 UTC
Could you please repost your xorg.conf and xorg.log as the current attachments
point to some other random junk.
Also are you experiencing the same problem with a current version of xorg?
Comment 10 Erik Andren 2006-04-02 19:45:27 UTC
I'm closing this bug due to the lack of activity. If the problem still persists
with a current relase of xorg, please reopen.

Since the opening, i switched to ubuntu dapper drake with Xorg 7.0.0 but still
got the same problems : 1400x1050 works fine(it s the lcd panel hardware
resolution), 1280x1024 works too( fonts are a bit blurry) but anything below
still displays the left third of the screen on the left, the right third of the
screen on the right, and in the middle part, it displays a copy of the right
third, so anything in this zone is invisible.

Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
Comment 15 Jerome Glisse 2009-05-20 05:28:44 UTC
Please reopen if you still have this issue with recent xf86-video-ati.
