I'm running Slackware 12 with 2.6.23-rc1 and when I start X i get this error from linux kernel: Jul 24 10:11:16 Calimero kernel: [drm:drm_release] *ERROR* reclaim_buffers_locked() deadlock. Please rework this Jul 24 10:11:16 Calimero kernel: driver to use reclaim_buffers_idlelocked() instead. Jul 24 10:11:16 Calimero kernel: will go on reclaiming the buffers anyway. Jul 24 10:11:26 Calimero kernel: [drm:i810_wait_ring] *ERROR* space: 65476 wanted 65528 Jul 24 10:11:26 Calimero kernel: [drm:i810_wait_ring] *ERROR* lockup Jul 24 10:11:31 Calimero kernel: [drm:i810_wait_ring] *ERROR* space: 65468 wanted 65528 Jul 24 10:11:31 Calimero kernel: [drm:i810_wait_ring] *ERROR* lockup and on the display there is on blue/grey garbage. I need to reboot the system. does the old i810 driver work for you?

Created attachment 14797 [details] [review] Problematic patch I think that this patch introduced this problem. It has been applied between kernels 2.6.21.7 and 2.6.22
Hi, Apparently this bug has been introduced between the linux kernels 2.6.21.7 and 2.6.22. I have looked into the linux commit history and applied the relevant patches one by one, trying to figure out which patch introduced the problem. My conclusion is that the following patch is the culprit: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.22.y.git;a=commit;h=54ba2f76e281286cf4b2860ed8354602eab4c1ef Reverting this patch from the 2.6.22 kernel fixes the problem. Unfortunately I cannot revert this patch on the latest kernel (probably because of the many changes that occurred since the release of the patch). I hope this might help you pinpoint the problem. Regards, Emil
PLEASE IGNORE MY PREVIOUS TWO COMMENTS. Looks like the problem by the "problematic" patch has been fixed in subsequent patches.
So is this problem still happen in latest kernel 2.6.24 or 2.6.25-rc?
(In reply to comment #12) > So is this problem still happen in latest kernel 2.6.24 or 2.6.25-rc? > yes it happens with 2.6.25-rc5 Here is the log. _XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6 _XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/Calimero:0 _XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6 X Window System Version 1.3.0 Release Date: 19 April 2007 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 1.3 Build Operating System: Slackware 12.0 Slackware Linux Project Current Operating System: Linux Calimero 2.6.25-rc5 #1 Mon Mar 10 10:11:32 CET 2008 i686 Build Date: 09 May 2007 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. maybe try disabling AIGLX.. Section "ServerFlags" Option "AIGLX" "false" EndSection in xorg.conf and see if goes away.
(In reply to comment #15) > maybe try disabling AIGLX.. > > Section "ServerFlags" > Option "AIGLX" "false" > EndSection > > in xorg.conf and see if goes away. > yes, it is working with this config ;-) Thanks.
Can we close this one? or if Dave, could you show why aiglx failed in i815 currently?

just for your info: same behavior with xf86-video-intel-2.3.0 (x server 1.4.0.90)
This issue is fixed for me with the following setup: xorg-server 1.4.0.90 xf86-video-i810 2.3.0 mesa 7.0.3 I can provide exact compile flags and my specific distro builds (Gentoo) if needed, just ask. BTW, this absolutely rocks! My glx and dri stuff absolutely sucked before all the fixes. Now, even Stellarium and Google Earth barely utilize my 1.5 core duo cpu. Most definitely using the GPU now. :)
