Xorg 7.2 freezes on me randomly when playing music.
It doesn't crash, nor does it leave any traces in the logs or have a high cpu/mem usage.
It just suddenly prevents mouse and keyboard from responding at all.

All apps continue to run, for example a loading web page loads, and music keeps playing.

I have linux 2.6.20.21 aka alsa 1.0.14rc1 (comes with it), and I usually listen with mpg123, though I've been able to reproduce with Mplayer too.

I've had this for some months, with earlier 2.6.20 series kernels too.

There is a solution; the only key that doesn't stop working is the laptop's Fn key. If I press it and some other function key, like adjust brightness, the lock goes away, and all the clicks/moving of mouse/typed characters erupt at once.

Is this still an issue with you with newer versions of xserver? If so, does the problem go away if you switch to a different kernel (doesn't matter which).

I haven't used the hardware in question for 2-3 years :P

I also think it's a bios bug of the laptop (HP Omnibook, can't recall the model, cba to dig it out of the closet). Something causes the keyboard controller to block, and Xorg doesn't handle that gracefully.

I think this can be closed; it's not exactly bothering me now.
