I've just migrated from XFree86 4.3.0 to X.org 6.8.0 to see how things look. While 2D acceleration worked perfectly in XFree86, it's horribly broken in X.org. My initial XDM screen looks horribly corrupted, with only a vague outline of the login box visible. After logging in, some things seem to be OK, but other areas of the screen are corrupted. It seems like areas involving direct pixel plotting by an application work, whereas line-drawing and such fail. Scrolling in firefox is broken, only some parts of the browser update. All in all, pretty much nothing works right, and, of course, when I turn off acceleration, everything is slow as hell. This seems to be independent of bit-depth. I have this same problem using xorg-6.8.1. Any known workarounds?
Have you tested 6.8.2?
*** Bug 1379 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Asking one more time, have either of you tried 6.8.2 ?
Sorry, must have missed the previous question. No, I haven't tried 6.8.2 on that machine because the screen died. Sorry I can't help you track this down anymore.
(In reply to comment #4) > Asking one more time, have either of you tried 6.8.2 ? I have not had a chance yet. The machine I have that has this chipset is my system at work, and I've worked around this issue by using an external video card. I'll try to make time this coming week to rip out the external card & try this chipset. I'll be testing this on Ubuntu's XOrg, and I don't know if they apply any external patches.
Closing. Believed to be fixed in 6.8.2. Re-open if the problem persists after upgrading.
