Description Elan Ruusamäe 2007-12-23 15:59:32 UTC
us_ee layout combines the great layout of us keyboard and special letters in estonian language.

the problem with estonian layout is that the special chars what you use in programming are really ugly to input (with altgr mostly).

A couple of questions/wishes:
1. Could you please have a look at the submission rules: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/XKeyboardConfig/Rules You violate some of them.
2. If you insist on having Euro on E - please include eurosign(e) - though I would prefer to leave that choice to the user.

Looking forward to getting new version of the patch;)

hi

i've updated patch (from same url) as much i understood what is wrong :)
if you find something more is wrong please mention it...

also i included both variants of euro symbol because (suprise?) on my keyboard they are both printed on buttons!
Comment 3 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2007-12-25 15:24:11 UTC
That is definitely much better!

Another question: is this a layout used in US by Estonian-speaking people or in Estonia by people using keyboards made by US standard (of engraving)?

Regarding the euro character - do you insist on having both includes? Could we leave them both out - and count on people using whatever XkbOption they need? If you desperately need one - I'd prefer eurosign(5)
Comment 4 Elan Ruusamäe 2007-12-25 17:22:46 UTC
it is used by Estonians in Estonia mostly :)
However this is my keymap, how many actually use it, i don't know :P

we still need to input euro sign, so at least one euro button must be there. then again the keys aren't used for anything else so why can't there be two variants? :)

perhaps these two together then?
    include "us(euro)"
    include "eurosign(e)"

and i really do have euro sign on both buttons, "E" and "5" :)

and i don't think XkbOption is convinient for users whi switch keyboard layouts, for example in kde the applet seems to invoke when switching:

$ setxkbmap -model logiaccess -layout ee -variant us
$ setxkbmap -model logiaccess -layout ru -variant phonetic

however forgive me if i may be mistaken :)

Ghm. That does not sound good to me. I am suspicious to include layouts by the only person - the author ://

Just for the good style's sake - to have one keycode for one keysym whenever possible. Minor issue, I know.

OK, if you insist on eurosign(e)...

KDE allows you to specify XKB options. I am positive (because I participated in a lot of flamewars comparing GNOME kbd configuration UI with the KDE's one;)
Comment 8 Elan Ruusamäe 2007-12-26 03:33:54 UTC
i found that other layouts in "ee" file also hardcoded euro symbol. i've made them use include statement (updated patch), now they use different combinations themselves too...

and i found XKB options from KDE panel too :)

about euro key itself, i find using e more convinient, however i think more options are better for different habits. i'll ask local LUG what they think :)
Comment 9 Elan Ruusamäe 2007-12-26 04:24:56 UTC
ok. by estonian standards euro must be on "e" letter, however it can't be so on dvorak keyboard as that key generates "ö" character.

I really do like your last patch. Thanks for sorting out the eurosign usage. Committed.
