Description Stanislav Brabec 2004-09-20 07:44:04 UTC
According to IANA registry and RFC3003, files *.mp1, *.mp2 and *.mp3 files
should all have MIME type audio/mpeg, not audio/x-mp3.

I'm not sure it's 100% exact to give an audio/mpeg mime type to mp3 files
containing ID3 tags, but audio/mpge would still probably be better for those
files I guess
Comment 2 Stanislav Brabec 2004-09-24 04:05:26 UTC
audio/mpge is not in IANA registry. And RFC3003 (errata) talks only about
additional MIME type audio/MPA (The MPA [RFC 1890] sub-type refers to MPEG audio
when it is segmented and send as a Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP) payload.)

IANA registry database is very poor and does not contain many common data types.
I think, that registration more types would be very useful, especially in
coordination with freedesktop.org. (In case of audio/mpeg also RFC3003 update.)

Changed in CVS, the main mime type is audio/mpeg, and it has audio/x-mp3 as an
alias.
