Created attachment 14069 [details] my xorg.conf I'm running Debian testing/unstable with Xorg 7.2 current git of radeonhd and KDE 3.5.8. My setup consists of a Dell X1300 (01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series]) and two monitors. The flickering i'm reporting started when 2D-Acceleration was enabled. Whenever i have a maximized kde application that contains a lot of text (konqueror, kate, kmail) running on one monitor and i start scrolling up/down or left/right, horizontal flickering lines apears on both monitors. Also maximizing and un-maximizing a KDE-application cases both monitors to flicker for a very short, yet recognizable, time. This flickering does not occur when i start non-kde applications, like firefox inkscape or when the kde applications are not maximized... I attached my xorg.conf.
I have to correct myself a little: the flickering occurs always in kde applications when maximized, not only when a lot of text is displayed. And sometimes the flicker also occurs when windows are not maximized.
Could this just be shearing by the blit not being in sync with the frame rate? If not it may well be a bandwith issue. We have several of those here in bugzilla. Unfortunately we have to little information to fix this.
So, any idea on how to narrow the reason for the flickering down, or how i could supply some more information?

Any news on this bug? It is still present in the most recent git-version (as of 28.july 2008). The flickering only appears when using radeonhd. There is no such flickering in fglrx and radeon.
Can you try the atombios_support branch and set: Option "UseAtomBIOS" "TRUE" in the device section of your config? It could be that atombios (which radeon and fglrx use) is setting up something slightly differently than the radeonhd mode setup.
I tried the atombios_support branch. The flickering is reduced a lot but it is still very much noticeable. Especially when resizing windows and when scrolling in a maximized (fullscreen on one monitor) application (e.g. konqueror). By the way, although there were some AtomBios related messages in Xorg.log, one line also stated this: (WW) RADEONHD(0): Option "UseAtomBIOS" is not used is this supposed to be right?

Can you attach your log so we can verify?
Sorry for answering with such a delay. I appended my Xorg.0.log. Although the files states: RADEONHD: version 1.2.1, built from git branch origin/atombios_support, commit 1707c4e9 it also still says: RADEONHD(0): Option "UseAtomBIOS" is not used Could be that i'm not using git the right way?! How do i properly checkout the atombios_support branch?

Sinisa: please try GIT head now and use: Option "UseAtomBIOS" "yes"
The flickering is still there. See my Xorg.0.log

Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component. Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch.
Closing due to lack of response. Please reopen and move to the Driver/Radeon component if this issue persists with xf86-video-ati
