Description Wade Berrier 2008-02-12 14:51:13 UTC
When I configure an xserver to use two screens without xinerama, going full screen on the second head maximizes to the size of the first head, even when the second screen size is smaller than the first head.

The workaround is to use the same resolutions on both screens. The problem with this is that I don't want to down scale with my 800x600 projector, and I don't want to run my 1280x1024 lcd at 800x600.

I assume it must be an X issue, because the same issue happens in both gnome and kde (on opensuse 10.3)

Define "going full screen". X doesn't really have a full screen mode, it's more a function of the window manager you're using.

I mean "Going Full screen" to be what happens when you maximize a window, with or without borders.

I'll attach a diagram to explain better.

My primary display is 1280x1024 (area 1), and a secondary projector at 800x600 (area 2). When I maximize a gnome-terminal window or put mplayer into fullscreen mode on the secondary display, the windows maximize as if the screen was 1280x1024 (area 2 and 3), even though it's actually only 800x600. Maximizing on the primary display in this scenario has no issues.

Maybe it is a window manager bug? I was just surprised that it happened in both kde and gnome in suse 10.3, so I figured it was a bug in X? (I don't think there was a problem in suse 10.2, but I can't remember for sure).

A problem like reported seems to occur with Windows XP as well (Libreoffice 3.4.2). Computer uses two monitors, with different resulotions.
When opening a (previously maximised, but now minimised) window by clicking on the taskbar button for the document in use by LibreOffice, nothing happens. When using the right hand button on the mouse and selecting maximise (not previous format), the window maximises.
An extra tool (Actual Multiple Monitors) is used for extra multiple monitor functionality.

Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not obviously still valid. Please file a new report if you continue to experience issues with a current server.
