Description Arkady Belousov 2008-02-20 15:43:15 UTC
I was trying to change font of DOS/Windows console window, but don't know, how to select there DejaVu font (instead Lucida?), if this possible at all. Does DejaVu Mono follows MS specifications (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247815)? These specifications are for NT/2k, but, probably, Win98 affected too.

Also, I was opening DejaVu fonts in charmap and wonder, why they not shown as cyrillic there? See screen shots in attachments. The more so, middle part of DejaVu Sans (with specific characters, like long dash) is completely missing (all shapes are outlined box).

PS: DejaVu Mono lacks Hebrew language, so it can't be used for Hebrew terminal. :)

I think the difference between the screenshots is mostly because Windows 98 doesn't properly support Unicode, so to display Cyrillic it needs a font that is specifically encoded for Cyrillic (and you'll need different fonts for each script then). Now everything is just Unicode which is just much better on so many levels, so maybe it's time to upgrade your Windows after 10 years :-)

About the console problem, I think our fonts follow the specs on that page, but I guess Windows 98 has additional requirements... Make sure to install the latest version of DejaVu since we did have some issues with Mono getting recognized as monospaced a long time ago.

Reducing priority, Unicode CMaps in TrueType fonts have been supported properly
by all operating systems known to me since the beginning of the century or so.

I guess it’s safe to call this a WONTFIX ;-)
