Created attachment 14800 [details] lspci -vvv output of the computer I'm using the ASUS P5E-VM-HDMI motherboard with the integrated Intel G35 chipset and the ICH9 HD Audio controller. The latest Alsa release (1.0.16) has support for the HDMI audio component of the above chipset. The support works fine in console mode. However, if X is running, the video starts flickering wildly when I enable the HDMI audio output port (I don't even need anything playing). Every now and then, the display will go out for about 1s as well (any audio playing will stop when the display is lost). turning off the HDMI audio output port (in alsamixer) fixes the flickering. I've tested this with the latest sources for both the intel driver and alsa. same problem. I will be posting this as a bug report on the alsa bugsite. In addition, I was requested to open a bug report here as well. Rajesh

I encounter similar behavior. Enabling audio over HDMI (IEC958-1 in alsamixer) causes the television screen to go blank, indicating that the signal in not recognized (it indicates no further details). Disabling HDMI audio restores the display.
Reassign Hong's bugs back to the default for triage.
Hi Rajesh I use the same motherboard 82G35 Express, but the issue can not reproduce, so Could you download the latest driver to test again ? Thanks Ma Ling
the full bug description is here https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3823 basically, the flickering stopped in a later release but you could only get left channel audio. I have not tried the latest G35/G45 hdmi patches yet to see if that fixes everything.
So this bug should be closed. Please file new bug for new issue.
