This would actually be pretty neat. Traditionally this has required the installation of smartmontools which is pretty daunting and confusing.

I'm not sure if this is something we want to have in HAL. I don't think we want to duplicate code from the smartmontools in HAL. If someone want this, smartmontools should include maybe a addon to do this, but IMO nothing we should add to the HAL package.

Please request/propose this to the authors of smartmontools
