When the resolution of the TMDS output is set to 1600x1200 (either by xrandr (--auto) or by the Xserver itself, no modelines supplied), my monitor recognizes the signal as 1600x1198 (!) and scales the output to 1600x1200, this is clearly visible.

Looks similar to bug#15370. Is this a DVI interface?

Now I really thought that I had browsed through all relevant bug reports to avoid duplication, it appears I still skipped one :-(

bug#15370 is indeed almost exactly the same, even on the same laptop :-/
