When playing videos for a longer time with the xf86-video-intel 2.3 driver, the screen sometimes goes blank and not even restarting X takes it back to displaying anything. I've never observed this with 2.2. I've used mplayer with xv to play videos: mplayer -vo xv -ao alsa -fs whatever.mpg Except for this, 2.3 works great.
Please provide more info according to http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html. Can this be steadily reproducible? I suspect if this is triggered by screen saver or other power saving activity which will be activated after a fixed peirod of no-user-operation?
Unfortunately there is nothing easily reproducable about this problem. It happens at different times (screen blanking/DPMS is probably not involved - that would have a constant time from the last time something happened, and mplayer turns those features off anyway), and seems to be totally at random. The only constant thing is that whenever it happened so far, I was playing a video with Xvideo, leading me to suspect a random bug in the Xvideo support in the driver. This happens on a 945GM, PCI ID 8086:27a2, subsystem 17c0:4070
You still need to provide other info according to http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html, like Xorg.0.log, xorg.conf and system environment info for other components (like xserver).
Created attachment 16359 [details] Xorg.0.log Userland is today's git xserver and mesa and xf86-video-intel-2.3.0 (also seen with older xserver and mesa snapshots and xf86-video-intel-2.2.99.x snapshots - 2.2.1 works well).
Does this problem still happen with recent releases?
Not sure - I don't have the machine anymore, the one I upgraded to has a newer chipset (GM47) on which I never had the problem.
we can't reproduce this. No way to track this bug down now with the machine gone. Wild guess would be a dup of those ring dead bugs...
