Does disabling tiling help? Option "ColorTiling" "False"
No, it didn't make a difference. That included a reboot to make sure nothing was mixed up by the previous driver settings.

Does a newer version of the driver help (6.9.0 or newer)?
Hello: I've also experience this issue, but not on a regular basis. I only got the screen like that when x (badly) crashes. I've been using radeon versions up to 6.12.6. I'm now on 6.13. I'll pay attention if I see this again. Debian testing/sid xserver 1.7.6 mesa 7.7.1 libdrm 2.4.18 linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (from Debian) Thanks.
Please reopen if this is still an issue.
Since I switched to KMS a long time ago I do not care about this bug any more. Unfortunately this bugzilla doesn't offer a "CLOSED - DONTCARE" resolution.
