Bug detailed description:

startx,no display when run 'ipers' with CLASSIC ,and the issue also happened when run 'ray'.

Reproduce steps:
----------------
1.export INTEL_NO_GEM=1
2.xinit&
3../ipers (or ray)

I think this one's a dupe -- classic ipers just took a really, really long time to draw.  Fixed with #16328.
