Boot machine (context switch console to x) login via gdm on account1, logout (context switch x to console) gdm restarts (context switch console to x) login via gdm on account2, logout (context switch x to console) gdm attempts to restart using nouveau but fails, Xorg eventually resorts to using the vesa driver in lieu of nouveau and manages to start. Will attach xorg log from sucessful start, log does not appear to be retained on failed startup attempt - any suggestions on how to grab this appreciated.

This may well be a real bug in the drm, but all those vmware messages interspaced with the failure to allocate memory make me nervous. Can you try without vmware loaded to see if it makes a difference? danny
no vmware, I havent been able to get nouveau to fail. versions of a few things have changed though. Will attach updated logs but appears fixed ...
