xdbedizzy does not work working on the Solaris/Xsun server (Solaris 8 with m64 framebuffer in 8+24bit mode in an Ultra5). It just hangs at 100% CPU load with a black window, nothing gets rendered. Trying the same with double buffering turned off (% xdbedizzy -nodb #) works normal.
An attempt due figure out what's going wrong resulted in a scary truss log. It seems that xdbedizzy is looping in libX11 until the hell freezes (I'll attach the log in a few secs) ...

Make sure you've installed 108652-80 or later on Solaris 8, to get the fix in Xsun for: 4985837 XdbeGetVisualInfo causes Xlib threads to hang (Which is actually a server side bug, since Xsun is sending the wrong reply length for the DBEGetVisualInfo request and Xlib gets stuck waiting for more data from the Xserver which never arrives.)
bug in a demo app with a closed server != critical.
So did installing those patches fix the problem? BTW, bug 4985837 in Xsun was the same as this fix which went into XFree86 in 2001, so Xorg should already have the fix: http://cvsweb.xfree86.org/cvsweb/xc/programs/Xserver/dbe/dbe.c.diff?r1=3.8&r2=3.9
