Description philippe.roubach 2008-09-22 11:35:00 UTC
i discovered a big pb with 2009.0rc1 and its "nv" driver

at the installation of the 2009.0rc1 the "nv" driver is installed by default

i did not installed the "nvidia" driver

i worked during 30 mn with the 2009.0rc1

then

i quit 2009.0rc1 and launch 2008.1

2008.1 is installed with the "nvidia" driver

i have in my desktop a karamba applet displaying nvidia card temperature

i see the temperature is 81 °C ! never seen that

the temperature is usualy about 60 °c and 65 °C

after about 5 mn the temperature decreases to 65 °C

my nvidia card is an Asus silent 8600GT fanless

if i install the "nvidia" driver with my 2009.0rc1 the temperature is a usual
one 60 °C to 65 °C

i can reproduce the phenomenon

what is wrong in this nv driver ?

Nobody is supporting xf86-video-nv and it will be going away at some point in the future. If your problem persists with nouveau or the proprietary driver provided by nVidia, please re-file accordingly. We apologize for the inconvenience.
