On the new Dell Latitude E6500 I can only use the intel video driver if I disable the acpi processor kerneloption:
 Power management options
 ACPI
 Processor

As soon as the X server starts the machine completly locks up. No reactions: no ping, no SysRq, logfile stops at some irrelevant point (loading fonts).

I'm using Gentoo and the following versions:
- xf86-video-i810: 2.4.2-r1
- xorg-server: 1.5.0
- gentoo-sources: 2.6.26-r1

Biosversion: A03

There's a render standby workaround in xf86-video-intel git master, could you try it?

Thank you - I applied the patch to version 2.4.2 and it works :)
