Created attachment 20255 [details] Xorg.0.log GEM so far seems to be rather stable on my 855GM laptop, but I can clearly see major screen corruption. Unfortunately, captures taken with xwd are all correct (front buffer corruption?) My LFP display is 1280x768 and the corruption is always below the Y=~500 line. Sometimes, it'll be a long dashed horizontal line with small vertical line every ~20 pixels. Sometimes, the whole lower area of the screen will just completely be darkened out. And most of the time, it'll be a 20px high band going edge to edge across the screen. So far, the affected areas have always been a dark brown. In applications such as Firefox, I can scroll the corrupted areas out and then back in, which "clears" the corruption. FWIW, this doesn't seem to be related at all to bug #18138 as the corruption appears only with GEM. Thanks

As I said in bug #18138, with the drm-intel-2.6.28 branch there's no screen corruption with -intel 2.5.1 and xorg 1.5.3. I'll bisect the kernel to see what change fixed this. Thanks
Like in bug #18138, I was wrongly using drm driver i830 instead of i915. The bug is still there.
I have two machines with similar hardware, but only one of them shows the kind of screen corruption that Rémi described. The other one works flawlessly. Both systems use the same kernel image and user space: xf86-video-intel-2.5.1-r1 (Gentoo) libdrm-2.4.3 (Gentoo) xorg-server-1.5.3 (Gentoo) linux-2.6.28 (kernel.org) I will attach the X log files from both systems. Maybe the differences help to narrow down the problem.

The screen corruption described in this bug affects large areas of the screen and disappears when the screen is redrawn. The fonts, on the other hand, remain corrupted when the screen is redrawn. The screen corruption no longer occurs when I disable tiling (Option "Tiling" "false"). But I think that the real problem is only hidden, because sometimes pixmaps become corrupted in a similar way. This corruption is much harder to reproduce, though.

After upgrading the driver to revision 38a7683561cee7fffab174c2a166bfd51b51ba27, I have not seen any screen corruption in two days. (I am still using xorg-server-1.5.3 and Linux-2.6.28.7.) Can the other reporters confirm that the issue is resolved?
On my part, this bug seems to have been fixed in between 2.6.1 and 2.6.2. And bug #18138 seems to have been fixed in the process as well. I'll try to bisect to figure out which commit(s) fixed it. Thanks
On my part I can't tell anything as Xorg is crashing with xf86-video-intel-2.6.2 :( It starts up but screen remains black (e.g. not drawing the standard X background and cursor), then when I start an X application Xorg crashes. For a few tenth of minutes runtime I have not seen any corruption yet so it looks pretty good so I can disappearance of corruption mentioned in comment #15 and comment #16
Created attachment 23563 [details] Screeshot (photo) of scrambled tiles With 2.6.3 driver, after rebooting I got scrambled display as visible on attached picture (I would have expected blue-sky background with gkrellm in top-right corner and enlightenment panel in bottom/middle) - rebooting a few times did not change anything. Disabling tiling in Xorg config (option "tiling" "no") got me back to the expected display content. So I assume the good results I got yesterday were due to 2.6.1 properly configuring tiling and 2.6.3 just reusing the tiling configuration. After reboot with immediate use of 2.6.3 it fails.
I'm adding myself here because I have reproducible scenarii for artifacts with EXA/855GM with and without tiling (kernel 2.6.29, video-intel-2.6.99-902).

Unfortunately, no. There is no longer corruption of the screen but single letters in fonts in both console and Firefox 3. I don't have a single reproduction sequence, however, that's why the silence. Furthermore, I'm switching to a Mac, so I might not available for testing in a few weeks.
