Created attachment 20281 [details] Doom 3 screenshot Doom 3, and other games based on the same engine (Quake 4, Prey) all have severe problems with shadows. I'm attaching a screenshot to show the problem. This happens when the arb2 renderer is used, which seems to be the default. Setting it manually to arb (+set r_renderer arb) doesn't result in this problem, but it's a lot less fun as it makes the game quite ugly. I will retry later with Mesa 7.2 to see if this is a regression. Created attachment 20752 [details] Doom 3 menu It's still there, in fact the broken shadows can even be seen on the planet in the menu, which also has other strange effects. I'm attaching a new screenshot.
Last I used doom 3 long ago, it had z-fighting-looking issues like that in the main menu. Do you have some evidence that it's gem-related?
No, indeed, the problems with shadows and the menu exist with a non-GEM kernel too.
Thanks, Sven, I'm marking dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 18844 ***
