My xorg.conf & xorg.0.log

I'm running xorg-server 1.5.3-4 and have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p. I am using Arch Linux. I can login fine through gdm into gnome, but when I want to logout to gdm again, it tries to login repeatedly but always crashes. A restart will fix it.

As attached is my xorg.conf and my Xorg.0.log. I have noted that other T61p users are experiencing this as well. Whether this is a coincidence, I'm not too sure.

Please attach the log files as separate, uncompressed files. Attaching
tarballs makes it harder for anyone to look at them.

Update: Adding "GdmXserverTimeout=60" under [daemon] in the file /etc/gdm/custom.conf is a successful workaround. (Arch Linux)

Ubuntu users change /etc/gdm/gdm.conf

Another method is through downgrading the nvidia driver.

I can confirm that by applying the fix resolved the issue for me:

Update: Adding "GdmXserverTimeout=60" under [daemon] in the file
/etc/gdm/custom.conf is a successful workaround. (Arch Linux)

Please retest with a newer driver. There have been a couple of fixes for delays restarting X that went in a while ago.
Comment 7 Gary Cai 2009-08-14 01:03:36 UTC
If you are refering to 185.18.31, then that has an even bigger problem. Configuring and using X is impossible. I've had to drop down to 185.18.14 because of that.
Comment 8 Aaron Plattner 2009-08-14 08:33:06 UTC
Impossible how? What happens when you try? Also, please try 190.18, available here: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/
Comment 9 Gary Cai 2009-08-14 22:29:54 UTC
Yeah. That worked. I installed the nvidia-beta and the nvidia-utils-beta packages from the AUR.
Comment 10 Aaron Plattner 2009-08-15 11:37:08 UTC
Cool, thanks for testing. Marking fixed.

You're welcome.
