Description Joel Becker 2004-12-06 10:00:49 UTC
I like to use the QIV image viewer for viewing images quickly. I have been
using it with Nautlius (and the mime-info backing it) successfully for quite a
while. I was, of course, annoyed to discover that the upgrade to
shared-mime-info lost all my old information, but I wanted to push forward and
get it working.

So, in Nautlius, I right-clicked a JPEG and chose "Properties". I then selected
the "Open With" tab. I clicked "Add", and entered "qiv" as the application.
Sure enough, an entry for qiv was added. So far, so good.

Then I clicked "Add" again, and entered "qiv -ft" (fullscreen, fit the image to
the screen). Another entry "qiv" was added to the list. So now, the "Open
With" list contains two "qiv" entries, completely indistinguishable. My
right-click menu for JPEGs contains the same two indistinguishable entries.

I looked all about for UI to change the "qiv" title, so as to differentiate. I
couldn't find anything. I eventually hand-edited the .desktop entries. That
worked. But I shouldn't have to do that. Most users won't know how to do that.

Debian unstable shared-mime-info 0.15-1
Intel Pentium III.
Comment 2 Joel Becker 2004-12-06 10:09:13 UTC
Note that I hand-edited .desktop files. After reading some more spec info
(where the URLs weren't broken on freedesktop.org), I begin to think this bug
might be .desktop software related and not belong to shared-mime-info. I went
to shared-mime-info because that's where helpful #gnomers sent me.

If this bug is miscategorized, please move it.
