In extended use of gpk under Fedora rawhide tonight, I'm finding that the yum version is occasionally (most of the time it works once and subsequent uses of apply will hand) going "off into the zone" and getting stuck in a "Waiting for transaction to start" state.

As mentioned, this is mostly occurring when doing "apply" a 2nd or 3rd time in a single run of gpk. PKit gets wedged and a system reboot is sometimes required to clear the queue and allow more use of PKit.

I will try exiting gpk between rounds of applying updates/installs and see if it behaves better.

gnome-packagekit-0.4.5-3.fc11.i586.rpm

[I'm doing a lot of install/remove work on a fresh rawhide Fedora install because the Fedora installer isn't behaving well currently and required several attempts at a minimal install to complete. I don't expect this to be your problem, just mentioning it for completeness.

[BTW, gpk has improved tremendously since the last time I tried to use it during the run-up to Fedora 9 - looks and acts much better.

Can you please try installing:

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=1249802
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=1249731

When you've installed the new PackageKit, do:

dbus-send --system \
--dest=org.freedesktop.PackageKit /org/freedesktop/PackageKit \
org.freedesktop.PackageKit.SuggestDaemonQuit

Thanks.

I installed/freshened PackageKit with the indicated build and started using it under a fresh (minimal) rawhide install...

The user interface is cleaner and well-behaved (solving the low priority bug) but the attempt to do a third group of updates hung with a waiting for transaction to start on the KDE package "crystal"

I had downloaded all the pieces of the koji build and did an rpm -Fvh (as root)
so that all the components were from the new build.

Then did the dbus-send, and then ran System->Add/Remove Software from the menu.
First thing was to remove a couple of Gnome packages (festival,dasher,gok...) then a refresh and adding a slew of packages for the Gnome Desktop and an apply cycle. Then I added a bunch of Admin tools and applied successfully, Went to fill in KDE Desktop and hit Apply which hung.

Yesterday, quitting PKit/gpk between doing groups did allow running without hanging - (does this suggest a state bug in dbus?) I've rebooted the fresh install and will continue working with gpk.
