the commit that added this patch is http://cgit.openembedded.net/cgit.cgi/openembedded/commit/?id=ac20fb4e211705cb6ed73ca0936fe2dad2fa34ef  I have asked Otavio to comment here as well.  From the commit message, I assume that while compilation may work fine (maybe host files are included by default) cross-compilation fails.  But that is my guess work.  I hope Otavio will have more to say about this.

Well, this was long ago and it did solve a build failure for me.

whatever build failure this fixed doesn't happen today, so closing.
