KDE, kicker not stretched to maximum resolution

When I load KDE for example, the Kicker is 1280 pixels wide instead of the external monitor's 1440 pixels. The monitor is set to that resolution yet KDE still thinks maximum resolution is 1280x800, my laptop LCD's native resolution. So wherever KDE is retrieving resolution information is only getting that and is not getting the data that xrandr gets:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 1440 x 1200
VGA-0 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 255mm
   1440x900 59.9*+ 75.0 60.0
   1400x1050 60.0
   1280x1024 75.0 60.0 60.0
   1280x960 60.0 60.0
   1152x864 75.0 75.0
   1024x768 75.1 75.0 70.1 66.0 60.0
   832x624 74.6
   800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x480 75.0 72.8 72.8 75.0 66.7 66.0 60.0 59.9
   720x400 70.1

The proprietary drivers gave the correct information to X and KDE.

The Kicker is limiting itself to the size of the smaller of the two heads. This is a configuration issue not a driver issue.
