The Logitech Trackman Marble FX does not have a scroll wheel. Therefore I've
been using EmulateWheel to emulate one.

When the EmulateWheel button is pressed, the emulated wheel scrolls one step up.
It should not scroll unless the ball is moved after pressing the EmulateWheel
button.

It is very easy to reproduce this behaviour. It behaves as described above every
time, allways scrolling up. I have removed the trackball from its socket to
ensure it's not rolling upwards when pressing the button. 

EmulateWheel has worked just fine in version 6.7.0, 6.8.0 and 6.8.1, but since
at least 6.8.1.99 downloaded from CVS at October 6 2004 this bug is present. Is
is still present in 6.8.1.99 downloaded from CVS January 8 2005.

Going back to 6.8.1 solved the problem.

i believe this is a case of getting what you asked for:

        Option "EmulateWheelInertia"  "8"

button 4 here is both the EmulateWheel button and the button generated for Y
motion.  try doing something like:

$ xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7"

which will make the 4th and 5th buttons generate Button6 and Button7 events
instead of Button4 and Button5 (ie scrolling).

Please close this "non-bug". The behaviour had simply changed between 6.8 and
6.9. Ajax suggestion worked just fine.
