following up on bug 23082, i unloaded (+deleted) the i915 and drm kernel modules to see if i can get any stability into the damn thing ... kinda works, heh. unfortunately, it is so slow that one can say that it is unusable - it took me about 10 minutes at 100% cpu in the X server from the login to typing this text here.

consequently, operation without kernel support should be either fixed to work reasonably (like it (occasionally) did for the last 5 years) or just refuse to work at all.

master is even worse, as the event handling gets completely messed up, probably due to some bad interaction with the internal latency. see bug #23089 for the log.

The goal of non-drm mode is to bring graphics up minimally so you can debug why your drm doesn't work.  It will in fact be removed soon.
