Created attachment 28324 [details] Xorg.0.log with the error, driver 2.8.0, xorg 1.6.3, KMS enabled I have two laptops with intel cards, one 945 & Atom x86 and one... 965? (Lenovo X200 with a "X4500" intel graphic card) with Core2Duo running a 64bit system, both with Arch Linux. On both, when I install anything newer than a 2.7.1 and I try to close the KDE session, the X server fails to restart. On the 945 I can switch to another VT and restart kdm with "etc/rc.d/kdm restart" and it makes it work until the next time I try to log out. On the newer 965, it ends up with a blank screen and I can't switch to another VT, but I can ssh into it, restart kdm and log in again. This is with KMS disabled. With KMS enabled (I just tried this on the 965) even the 2.7.1 fails to show the login screen again. In addition (maybe worth a separate report) KMS *and* >=2.7.99 make X boot without the native screen resolution but 1024x768 instead. The only stable conf is KMS disabled and intel driver 2.7.1. If it helps, I have logs of more tests, both successful (1st run) and not (trying to close session). The unsuccessful logs are always similar, aborted because of signal 11. Versions: xf86-video-intel: tested [2.7.1, 2.7.99.902, 2.8.0] xorg-server: tested [1.6.2, 1.6.3], no difference intel-dri, libgl, mesa: 7.5 libdrm: 2.4.12 kernel: 2.6.30.4, [32, 64] bit, [with or without KMS], [self-compiled or Arch stock] I will gladly provide any information requested.
Let's focus on 2.8.0 with KMS here. As I understand, the problem is startx gets crash. Please file separate bugs for other issues. btw, X200 is GM45.
this is the known regen issue (#20516) as far as I can tell.
I'm no expert but it seems like a duplicate indeed.
