Description Javier Jardón 2009-08-22 09:57:02 UTC
Automake 1.11 supports Linux-kernel like silent build rules with easy ways to switch to the more verbose output either at configure time:

  ./configure --disable-silent-rules

or at make time:

  make V=1

IMHO would be better to "require newer version of existing tool" than to drag in
a new special-purpose widget.

The attached patch enables silent build rules by default.

It be useful to push support for this into the xorg-macros repository so all modules get to use it.
Comment 3 Peter Hutterer 2009-09-02 19:00:26 UTC
The AM_SILENT_RULES will be part of xorg-macros 1.3.0.
we shouldn't get rid of shave just yet though as the silent rules require automake 1.11 - not everyone has upgraded yet.
Comment 4 Javier Jardón 2010-01-17 14:21:17 UTC
xserver requires xorg-macros 1.3 now, so this bug can be closed now
