The radeon 3D driver released in Mesa 6.2.1 and about to be in Xorg 6.8.2, suffers from an issue on M7 cards where glxgears causes it to lockup. This has been fixed in Mesa CVS and needs to be fixed in Xorg 6.8.2 tree (Xorg CVS head will get fix on next Mesa release).

Dave: What about Xorg trunk - will the patch be needed there, too ?
Well my thinking was the next Mesa import would get it anyways... but maybe it might be worth applying it there as well...
this has obviously been fixed since some time.
