Description Josh Triplett 2009-09-05 08:07:22 UTC
I read that Xorg on Solaris supports an option "BellDevice" to set the audio device used for the bell. In particular, this option allows pointing the bell at the sound card, which can then mute it or turn it down. Please consider adding support for this option on all platforms. Furthermore, please consider defaulting the sound card for the bell rather than the PC speaker, when possible.

This support was previously an option in the kbd driver on Solaris, but
is now the default bell used by the virtual core keyboard on Solaris - see
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/tree/hw/xfree86/os-support/solaris/sun_bell.c (which actually causes both the keyboard beeper & audio bell
to ring in the default configuration).

Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not obviously still valid. Please file a new report if you continue to experience issues with a current server.
