X currently does not work on Alpha.

It's being actively investigated by a team of people.

No update, moving to 1.7.1.

Oh! Sorry. I missed your first comment somehow.

It's kind of flakey. I tested yesterday, and X worked (no graphical glitches, no crashes on startup) without Radeon KMS. But pressing a key causes something to die.

My alpha is out of commission at the moment, so I haven't been as productive as I'd hoped. Moving it to 1.7.1 is fine by me.

patches are in master and in the 1.7 nominations branch now - seems we can close this one as fixed?
