dmesg after the lockup

I have this card ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129090 ) installed on an Asus a7n8x deluxe mobo, with a kubuntu 9.04 install, I have the 2.6.30 kernel and I installed the radeonhd driver by following the procedure outlined here ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonHD ).

using the GUI causes the computer to lockup. I can leave it running for hours and it will be fine, but as soon as I start opening/closing/moving windows about, the interface will lockup. I will not be able to interact with anything and I will not be able to switch to console via ctrl-alt-Fn. I CAN move the mouse, but the cursor moves at about 1-3 FPS and it is stuck in whatever mode it was in when the system locked (i.e. if I was moving a window it will keep the 'move' cursor), and I CAN connect via SSH, though the terminal is sluggish. the only way to put my computer back into an operational state is to reboot from ssh. (killing X via ssh does seem to succeed but the it never has any visible effect)

using the ati driver does not seem to have these issues. also if I boot up with the ati driver and switch (by changing xorg.conf and pkill "X") to the radeonhd, this problem does not seem to be present, though I might have just been getting lucky here. the lockup can also be very inconsistent, sometimes taking up to 15 minutes to manifest if at all but usually it happens within the first 10 seconds after the reboot sequence finishes and I start using the GUI.

my current xorg.conf, and Xorg.0.log are here ( http://pastebin.com/f356737a6 )
I have attached the dmesg text I got via ssh after a lockup.

Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component.

Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd

If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch.

Closing due to lack of response. Please reopen and move to the Driver/Radeon
component if this issue persists with xf86-video-ati
