Description Pedro Maia 2005-02-08 17:28:57 UTC
I've recently install latest Xorg cvs (HEAD), in my gentoo. All went well, and
worked fine. Then i decide to install the lastest CVS snapshot of drm module
(from dri.feedesktop.org/snapshots). And since that time my display appear
totaly borked, corrupted. I have some images, but they don't reflect half of
what's happening, the screen appears to be overlayed over and over. I have to
remember by heart where is ksnapshot to take the shots.
The fact of having DRI enable or not doesn't do anything, it's all the same.

this is an issue with color tiling, which just doesn't (yet at least) happen to
work on r300 and newer chips. You could disable it manually (Option
"ColorTiling" "off") or wait until I commit a fix (tomorrow).

ah why wait so long. Should be fixed in cvs. btw the pics you have are
interesting, they show that definitely not all is wrong with color tiling on
r300 (otherwise you wouldn't have got a correct background pic).
Actually, this wasn't a drm fault, but ddx. The only reason you experienced it
when updating the drm module and not before when updating ddx is because color
tiling needs a new drm to work (if dri is enabled), otherwise it will get
disabled anyway.

Ya, you are right, Colortiling off, resolved the issue.
One more thing, with the latest drm, with the driver radeon (ofcorse with
Colortilinf off), i get +254 fps (730fps) on glxgears, (although the wheel
almost don't seem rotate. I just hope R300 project become more stable :)
