I have upgraded the Intel xorg driver to version 2.10.0. This driver requires KMS. I have used UMS before because KMS has not worked for me so far. UMS hat its problems too (see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24282)

When booting my system with a KMS enabled kernel 2.6.32.3 the screen becomes dark and the monitor is switched into standby ("no signal"). I neither get a text console nor a xdm login.

After applying this patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=30610 to the 2.6.32.3 kernel the text console and xdm login become available in the native resolution of the monitor (1680x1050).

dmesg output with 2.6.32.3 vanilla kernel

This output has been generated with an unmodified kernel 2.6.32.3.
Comment 2 Gordon Jin 2010-01-10 05:42:10 UTC
So the patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=30610 fixes your problem.

Yakui, is that patch committed?

Comment 4 Markus Heinz 2010-01-10 05:58:09 UTC
Yesterday I have tried a recent kernel from the Intel drm-next tree (2.6.33-rc3) and it failed the same way as described with the linux 2.6.32.3 vanilla kernel.

Hi, Markus
The patch in comment #2 is only a workaround patch and it is not shipped. Now we have a correct patch to fix this issue.
Will you please try the following two patches in:
    >http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2010-January/005363.html

Thanks.
