I'm running SuSE 9.2 with the 6.8.1 with the Xvfb/Xvnc server packages. These servers annouce support for the XVIDEO extension but provide no driver. Having a generic driver which scales&renders the XV data into the window may still be a major improvement than doing a plain XPutImage of the already upscaled image.
See bug 2522 ("multiple xv overlays"), too.
CC:'ing nolan as this may be an interesting feature for VMware, too (you won't get real "accerlated" XVideo but at least the XVideo scaling would be done in the Xserver, saving client<-->server bandwidth and making fullscreen video display useable in VMware (Linux) guest).
Xvnc is out of tree.
Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
If you want to provide a patch, one is welcome. Otherwise, this isn't going to get fixed.
