Description Alan Grimes 2005-03-01 23:02:21 UTC
I'm using the latest X11 that gentoo will automaticly install. -- I think...
(could be a gentoo bug or a bug with their patches).

The bug happens _EVERY_ time I attempt to console switch using the usual
key-combination.

The primary monitor goes to a strange resolution -- garbage on the display,
keyboard entirely unresponsive (this IS also a kernel bug -- kernel 2.6.10).

Only way to resolve is to log in via an external console (I use a serial cable
because I couldn't find instructions on how to configure telnet..) and kill the
X server. -- top shows that the server is using 99% of a CPU, -- this is a SMP
machine.)

The only other way to resolve is to hard reset the machine. =((((

Cards are:

ATI R128

and

ATI Xpert@Play98 (Rage Pro Turbo) (Mach64 variant?)

Behaved normally before adding the second card listed.

Second card performs reasonably well except for the absence of DRI support from
the blasted kernel...

Known hardware anomoly:

The sound card, which is on the same bus as the RPT has a glitch in that it will
output bus noise during video playback. (probably unrelated).
