Problem: when running X with MergedFB enabled, closing and reopening the lid results in garbled image - heavy flickering, shifting and ghosting. Switching to a console, closing and reopening the lid fixes the problem, until the next time the lid is closed with the X running. This only happens with MergedFB enabled. Are you using ACPI and a HP specific acpi module? I think the bios is doing something behind the drivers back. Can you try xorg from cvs with the "BIOSHotkeys" option set to true? this may be related to bug 2000. Unfortunately, I don't know what the bitfields in the BIOS scratch regs mean.
Hi, Alex, Thanks for a quick reply. I am indeed using ACPI, but not anything HP specific. Will try CVS version in the next couple of days and report back.
So it would seem that Gentoo's got the BIOS hotkeys patch by default, and it does not make a difference, when enabled. However, I did try the CVS version anyway, and it looked like it was working fine! That's good news, I guess, but do you have any idea what other fixes this might be related to? I would kind of like to patch my current version rather than upgrading to CVS. Thanks again.
I don't know off hand. it could be that gentoo's version has some combination of patches that causes a problem.
