HDMI audio output works in Windows, so the hardware seems ok. xorg.conf and Xorg.log are attached. aplay -l gives: $ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 There is no sound output for any mplayer or aplay command. I have unmuted SPDIF stuff with alsamixer in various combinations.
Created attachment 33493 [details] Xorg.0.log Xorg.0.log after I run mplayer and aplay a few times.

Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component. Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch.
Closing due to lack of response. Please reopen and move to the Driver/Radeon component if this issue persists with xf86-video-ati
