Description Rüdiger Schiller 2010-03-04 06:38:51 UTC
SOFTWARE VERSION:
MAEMO5 - 3.2010.02-8
telepathy-extras 0.7

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1.1. Receiving "Authorization Request"
1.2. Open request

2. Open conversation

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
1. Contact's name or nickname (user set if available or server ones) showing as requesting entity, with request message.
2. Menu-Title shows Contact's name or nickname

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
1.ICQ/JID/skypeID showing but nothing else.
2. "IM - <$IM-ID>"

REPRODUCIBILITY:
always

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
extra protocol plugins (account-plugin-extras)

OTHER COMMENTS:
I would expect to find at least an info page in the menu where I would be able look-up things like last-seen and server-nickname or such.
This is really pain if you receive spamming requests and contacts as the client doesn't have a spam-captcha. So bare requests without further info I just have to accept to not accidentally permit a friend who's client messed up his auth'es because I cannot look-up or check if I know this account.

Your original bug report is about ICQ specifically, but this bug report appears extremely generic. Please be more specific when this occurs, and with which protocols.

I've never heard of "account-plugin-extras".

I have no influence over the closed Maemo UI.

I changed it to generic as I see this at all protocols I use. SO to be more specific, I use:
Jabber
ICQ
Skype
msn

and this happens on all of them, requests don't show names or nicks but account names or numbers, and the menu shows account-names or numbers as well. The menu is MaemoUI, I guess another bugreport to file at mae but is the auth request not just the same?

maybe its a meta package for all those plugins?

> I have no influence over the closed Maemo UI.

so the info is available through the plugin but the Maemo UI is not using it. Maybe then I was just right starting this bug at maemo?

I don't think this is a 'bug', but something no one thought about. It's just not useful the way it is at the moment, it could be autoaccepting ICQ (from the others I most of the time can tell if I know them or not) auth-requests, at least it wouldn't bugger me (please dont).

telepathy-extras only provides ICQ and MSN, so I will ignore Skype and Jabber.

Actually, I believe you've got this the wrong way round, somehow. I'm informed that the maemo UI *only* shows contact's names, not their jid/icq number/etc. so unless there is something wrong with haze, then you won't *ever* get the, say, ICQ number. Seeing as you're claiming otherwise, it leads me to think there might be something up with haze.

I think this might be a dup of bug #25157, which is specific to ICQ.

I am quiet new at looking into telepathy and didnt find my way around yet.

mmh, this is the same for all IMservices I use, they all show the ID and not the contacts name (to get me right, we are talking about requests and menu-title only, in conversations the text-msg-line does show the contacts name in front of it.)

So if I get it right, the plugin does already do the match and not the maemoUI so all I see is already wrong...?
