I just did the work today to make gnome-print be able to handle
glyph offsets within a glyph string in its PDF output, and the
technique should be copyable to improve on the 

 <6 numbers> Tm (\1) Tj <6 numbers> Tm (\2) Tj ...

approach that we have currently in the Cairo PDF backend. See the patch
attached to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164230.

Move bugs against "cvs" version to "0.9.3" so we can remove the "cvs" version.
