I am running the n900 Maemo pr 1.2 i've installed "Pidgin protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts v0.7"

It connects to the sametime server, I see contacts online
It recieves messages e.g. I see the notifications popup and "balloons"

When I click on the notification balloon the and open the conversations dialogue to respond it crashes with
"Internal error. Application 'Converations' closed"

The same happens after opening conversation and clicking on the message ...

Looks like a bug in the user interface, rtcom-messaging-ui. Open a bug in the maemo bugzilla.
