I have ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (RV350 AR), Mesa from git, pulled on 2010-06-14; Blender 2.49b. When I start Blender the first thing I noticed was that the splash screen didn't go away after moving the mouse and the controls were not visible. If I moved the mouse over the area where controls should be something started to show but it was displayed with corruption. Same with menu. the view wehere the cube is in the beginning didn't update even if I resized the window. The cube shows for a vwey brief time if you try to rotate the scene with the middle mouse button, but then it dissapears again. It kind of flickers when yiou rotate it.

Fixed by the commit 9b2ebcaf4b94bfc8756f6b216e0e452013616f2c. Can you confirm?
Controls and menus appear fine now, although the other problem with redrawing still remains.
I have exactly the same problem (ati radeon x1250) with Blender 2.49a but not with Blender 2.5 (latest svn). But after the latest 2-3 upgrades from xorg-edgers/lucid I now got an segmentation fault with r300g (error 4 in r300_dri.so) and Blender just close. This happen both with Blender 2.49a and 2.5. I'm not sure this have something to do with commit 9b2ebcaf4b94bfc8756f6b216e0e452013616f2c but the segmentation fault happen around that time.
There is a segfault fix in 59df6725afd9c0d50cd962dd01db868be13284db.
The segfault fix in 59df6725afd9c0d50cd962dd01db868be13284db don't work. Blender still crash with a segmentatin fault. I have add a new bug (see bug 28674).
Is this still an issue with current mesa git?
Works for me on RV350.
