Images are output in PPM, which does not support an alpha channel. I suggest switching this to the similar binary format PAM which supports an optional alpha channel or the more standard PNG format.

I would also really like to see this feature.
Any hints of how this could be implemented would be helpful - I may have time to create a patch for this functionality
