On a Fedora rawhide system, /dev/dri is assigned permissions of 750 instead of 755 resulting in:

OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
 as opposed to 
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV630 9588) 20090101  TCL DRI2


[andrew@790x ~]$ rpm -qa|grep Console
ConsoleKit-0.4.1-5.fc13.x86_64
ConsoleKit-libs-0.4.1-5.fc13.x86_64
ConsoleKit-x11-0.4.1-5.fc13.x86_64
